As the Founding President and Chief Psychologist of The Hume Center, Dr. Singh has shaped an organization committed to creating environments of psychological well-being, with a special focus on underserved communities.
Dr. Singh's journey in mental health began with his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University in 1965. His educational path was further enriched by a year of seminars with Gerald Caplan, M.D., at Harvard School of Public Health, focusing on Community Mental Health Consultation and Prevention of Mental Disorders. This foundation in community-oriented care would become a cornerstone of his professional approach.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Singh has worn many hats - from Assistant Director at the Center for Training in Community Psychiatry to Adjunct Professor at U.C. Berkeley's Doctoral Program in School Psychology. His expertise spans across various settings, including state hospitals for the mentally ill and community mental health programs. Dr. Singh's innovative work in developing award-winning community mental health programs showcases his commitment to accessible, quality mental health care.
Dr. Singh's contributions to the field have not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement award from the California State Psychological Association and recognition from the United States Congress for his fifty years of community service as a Clinical Psychologist. His work has also been acknowledged by the Surgeon General of the United States Army for his Behavioral Consultation Services.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Singh is a published author, having written "Changing the Course of Destruction," a book exploring paths to peace through understanding historical catastrophic events.
