About

Blending ancient wisdom with modern therapeutic approaches, Ruby Minji Hwang offers a unique healing journey that honors both the psyche and soma. As a pre-licensed clinician supervised by Ashleigh Sorenson, LMFT #88863, Ruby brings a rich tapestry of experience to her practice, weaving together Eastern philosophy, depth work, earth-based wisdom, and somatic healing.

Ruby's therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in the belief that each individual possesses innate healing wisdom. She creates a supportive container that allows this inner guidance to surface, inviting clients to collaborate in their healing process with gentle curiosity. Her specialties span a wide range, including somatic work, self-compassion, personal growth, boundaries, codependence to interdependence, trauma and complex trauma (CPTSD), family dynamics, generational healing, immigration, spirituality, and identity exploration.

Having migrated from South Korea at a young age, Ruby's personal journey of cultural integration informs her work, particularly in supporting clients as they navigate complex identities and life transitions. She graduated from the Columbia School of Social Work in 2021 with an emphasis on clinical practice, building upon over five years of experience in service work and case management. Ruby's approach is further enriched by her studies with healers and medicine women from various traditions, allowing her to offer a holistic perspective that honors diverse cultural wisdoms.

A significant portion of Ruby's work has focused on supporting People of the Global Majority, including Asian American & South Asian, Black & Indigenous, Latine, Southwest Asian & North African (SWANA), and multiracial populations, as well as those of LGBTQIA2S+ experience. However, her practice warmly welcomes all individuals on the path to self-discovery. She particularly enjoys working with creatives, college students, women & femmes, and young adults.

Ruby's approach centers on the concept of interdependence, recognizing the fundamental human need for connection and the power of reciprocity in healing. This philosophy, grounded in both contemporary attachment theory and cultural wisdom from around the world, fosters an environment of abundance and mutual growth. For those seeking a therapist who can guide them through the complexities of trauma, cultural identity, and personal growth with a blend of ancient wisdom and modern techniques, Ruby Minji Hwang offers a compassionate and insightful therapeutic experience.
