With a holistic approach that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit, Takiyah G. Small, LPCC-S, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role as Owner and Clinical Director of Small Behavioral Health Counseling (SBHC). As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervision designation, Takiyah specializes in guiding individuals through some of life's most challenging mental health issues, including suicidal ideation, major depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, family and relationship conflicts, and behavioral challenges.
Takiyah's academic journey reflects her commitment to continuous growth and excellence in her field. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Human Development from Walsh University in 2017, building upon her earlier achievement of a Masters in Business Administration from the same institution in 2011. Currently, Takiyah is furthering her expertise by pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Capella University, demonstrating her dedication to staying at the forefront of therapeutic practices.
In her practice, Takiyah employs a diverse array of therapeutic techniques to help clients achieve their goals. She believes in a comprehensive approach, recognizing that neglecting any aspect of an individual's well-being can lead to only partial results. Her toolkit includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Reality Therapy, Solution Focused Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, among others. This versatility allows her to tailor her approach to each client's unique needs and circumstances.
Takiyah's experience extends beyond individual therapy, encompassing work with high-risk youth and adolescents dealing with serious emotional disturbances, maladaptive behaviors, disruptive mood disorders, and thinking disorders. This broad range of experience informs her nuanced understanding of mental health challenges across different age groups and presentations.
