M.Div., LCMFT • Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist

In-person only

About

With over three decades of experience as a minister and a wealth of knowledge in psychology and theology, Gary Armour brings a unique blend of spiritual insight and clinical expertise to his practice as a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist. His approach is rooted in the belief that healing often involves addressing both the psychological and spiritual dimensions of a person's life.

Gary's journey to becoming a therapist is as intriguing as his practice. He holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from UMKC and a Master of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology, combining academic rigor with practical pastoral experience. This diverse background allows him to offer a holistic approach to therapy, understanding the complex interplay between mental health, relationships, and faith.

Specializing in a wide range of issues, Gary works with individuals, couples, and families to navigate life's challenges. His expertise includes helping clients work through adjustment problems, reestablishing communication, fostering relational understanding, and facilitating emotional healing. He is particularly skilled in addressing issues such as infidelity, emotional and sexual abuse, aging, divorce, grief, addiction recovery, and the stress of serious illnesses on family dynamics.

As a cancer survivor himself, Gary brings a profound empathy and understanding to his practice. He considers himself a "wounded healer," using his personal experiences to help clients find strength in their own struggles. This perspective allows him to guide clients through their challenges, empowering them to move beyond feeling victimized or powerless.

While Gary's background as an ordained Pastor of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) informs his practice, he maintains a high regard for each client's individual perspective. He skillfully incorporates aspects of faith and spirituality into therapy sessions, but only when explicitly requested by the client as part of their treatment plan. This respectful approach ensures that spiritual elements are integrated thoughtfully and appropriately, always in service of the client's goals and comfort.

With a career spanning over 35 years in ministry and now in therapy, Gary Armour offers a compassionate, experienced, and spiritually-informed approach to healing. Whether working with individuals, couples preparing for marriage using the "Prepare/Enrich Inventory," or families dealing with complex relational issues, Gary is committed to guiding his clients towards greater understanding, healing, and personal growth.
