Katie Mullaney
LCAT, ATR-BC • Licensed Creative Arts Therapist
About
Transforming lives through the power of art and mindfulness, Katie Mullaney, LCAT, ATR-BC, is a licensed Creative Arts Therapist and board-certified Art Therapist who specializes in helping individuals find inner peace and overcome life's challenges. With a unique blend of EMDR therapy, somatic therapy, and art therapy, Katie offers a holistic approach to mental health that engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that transcend traditional verbal communication.
Katie's journey in the mental health field began in 2009 when she graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY with an MS in Creative Arts Therapy. Since then, she has accumulated diverse experience working with clients of all ages and addressing a wide range of presenting problems. Her professional background includes roles as a Chemical Dependency Counselor in an outpatient setting, Mental Health Counselor, and Art Therapist in both acute psychiatric hospital settings and private practice. Katie has been instrumental in pioneering the integration of Art Therapy into several programs, showcasing her innovative approach to mental health care.
At the core of Katie's practice is the belief that everyone deserves inner peace and that transformation is not only possible but probable. She specializes in helping clients manage anxiety, depression, and trauma, utilizing a combination of evidence-based techniques. In 2022, Katie completed training as an EMDR therapist, further expanding her toolkit to help clients process and heal from traumatic experiences. She followed this with additional training and supervision in 2023 to obtain her EMDR certification, demonstrating her commitment to providing the most effective and up-to-date therapeutic interventions.
Katie's approach to therapy is grounded in mindfulness and somatic awareness. She helps clients develop emotional intelligence skills by teaching them to identify how emotions manifest in the body through somatic sensations. This "bottom-up" approach allows for deeper connections with memories and more efficient processing of traumatic experiences. By combining this somatic awareness with EMDR and art therapy, Katie creates a powerful, integrative method for healing and personal growth.
In her art therapy practice, Katie harnesses the kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities that artistic expression provides. This approach allows clients to access and integrate sensory aspects of implicitly stored trauma memories, playing a crucial role in healing and integration. The combination of art therapy with EMDR and somatic techniques offers a unique and comprehensive path to emotional wellbeing.
Katie Mullaney is dedicated to walking alongside her clients on their transformational healing journeys. She offers a safe, nurturing space where individuals can explore their inner worlds, release old belief systems, and create new, more aligned ways of experiencing life. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply seeking personal growth, Katie's compassionate and skilled approach can help you find your path to inner peace and joy.
