Allan Schwartz, LCSW, Ph.D. was in private practice for more than thirty years. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Colorado (#127) and New York (#R039535). He received both his MSW (1988, Wurzweiler School of Social Work)) and Ph.D. (1976, Ferkhauf Graduate School) from Yeshiva University in New York City. Dr. Schwartz is a Certified Psychoanalyst having graduated from NPAP (National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis) in 1992. He now lives and writes about psychotherapy in Boulder, Colorado and Southwest Florida.

Prior to entering private practice on a full time basis, Dr. Schwartz gained vast clinical experience Bronx Lebanon Hospital’s Outpatient Psychiatry Department, F.E.G.S, the Continuing Day Treatment Program for Chronically Mentally Ill patients, and the Geriatric Center’s Adult Outpatient Department of Psychiatry both at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. All of the above are located in New York City.

Dr. Schwartz is now in practice part time and is available for consultation. He is also available for psychotherapy through Skype Video for those who are not in Florida or Colorado. Current and archived articles can be found at his blog page.

Dr. Schwartz believes in dual modalities for psychotherapy. These modalities include Cognitive Behavioral techniques with Psycho-dynamic or “talking therapy.” Long experience has taught him that the relationship between patient and therapist is the key that helps people improve their coping skills, regardless of the modality or therapeutic philosophy of the practitioner.
